Job summary

The Cleveland Clinic Sleep Disorders Center is seeking a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist to conduct overnight sleep studies and support diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in both children and adults. You will prepare patients, apply monitoring equipment, educate patients on the process, and monitor data all night.

The role requires RPSGT certification, BLS, and flexibility to work the night shift (8:00pm–6:00am) on Sundays and Mondays, with optional Thursdays and Fridays.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • RPSGT certification is required under BRPT guidelines.
  • BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient and equipment for testing.
  • Interview patient to determine sleep disorder issues and explain procedures.
  • Perform and document testing.
  • Monitor patient throughout testing and intervene as necessary to resolve patient needs or equipment issues.
  • Instruct non-registered staff and trainees; score, interpret and report sleep study results.
  • Prepare, calibrate, repair and maintain equipment; perform QA.

Cleveland Clinic’s Sleep Disorders Center is a multispecialty, comprehensive program dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in children and adults. Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the center is comprised of specialists in neurology, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, pulmonary medicine, psychiatry, psychology and otolaryngology.

The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) is responsible for conducting overnight sleep studies to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. This role involves preparing patients for testing, applying monitoring equipment, educating patients on the sleep study process, and monitoring physiological data throughout the night.

A caregiver in this position works nights| 8:00pm—6:00am| Sunday and Monday, optional Thursday and Friday| no weekends or holidays (outside of Sunday).

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare patient and equipment for ordered testing.
  • Interview patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
  • Perform and document testing.
  • Monitor patient throughout testing and intervenes as necessary to resolve patient needs or equipment issues.
  • Instruct non-registered and trainees. Scores, interprets and reports results of sleep studies.
  • Prepare, calibrate, repair and maintain equipment required for testing. Determines and reports needed repairs/replacements. Performs QA.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
  • * Must be a Registered Polysomnography Technologist, under the BRPT guidelines
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires full range of body motion including standing and walking for extended periods of time; must lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients.
  • Requires the ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment.
  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $22.85

Maximum hourly: $34.85
