Job description

Job Title: Registered Pharmacy Technician

This role provides critical support to a busy clinic pharmacy by responding to inbound and outbound customer calls, processing prescriptions, and coordinating pharmacy services with accuracy and care. The registered pharmacy technician delivers a high level of customer service by answering questions about pharmacy services, managing refill and delivery inquiries, and resolving customer concerns in a professional and timely manner. The position also supports pharmacological services by accurately entering and maintaining patient and prescription data, coordinating prior authorizations and insurance verification, and ensuring prescriptions are filled according to the cycle fill calendar. This non‑exempt role reports directly to the Pharmacy Manager and supports the Director of Operations in the Pharmacy Manager’s absence.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to inbound and outbound calls from patients, caregivers, referral sources, and other providers to deliver prompt and courteous customer service.
  • Answer questions related to pharmacy services, medication refills, delivery status, and general pharmacy assistance, ensuring clear and accurate information.
  • Receive and process new pharmacy referrals, including accurately transcribing prescriptions into the pharmacy system.
  • Verify insurance coverage for prescriptions and facilitate prior authorization requests as needed.
  • Generate and review reports that follow the cycle fill calendar to manage and track refill requests.
  • Send and follow up on refill requests via e‑prescribing systems, facsimile, or phone, ensuring timely processing.
  • Coordinate delivery of medications to patients, including scheduling and confirming delivery details.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for service‑related inquiries and address associated needs with professionalism and empathy.
  • Support pharmacological services by editing and verifying fill lists, including insurance information, last fill dates, billing details, and toting.
  • Align short‑fill patients’ medications according to the cycle fill calendar to ensure synchronization of medication schedules.
  • Accurately enter and update patient information in the patient record, ensuring completeness and correctness.
  • Maintain all patient records in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • Assist in labeling, filling, and fulfillment tasks to support a high‑volume prescription workload.
  • Resolve customer complaints by identifying issues, providing appropriate solutions, and following up to ensure resolution.
  • Collaborate closely with pharmacists and other pharmacy technicians to ensure efficient, safe, and accurate pharmacy operations.
  • Coordinate initiation of care with patients or caregivers, referral sources, and other care providers to support continuity of care.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Access, to support reporting, tracking, and documentation.
  • Adhere to all pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety.
  • Demonstrate punctuality, organization, and effective time management to meet workload demands in a fast‑paced environment.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a board‑approved pharmacy technician training program.

  • Strong knowledge of medication brands, generics, dosing, and day supply calculations.
  • Pharmacy experience including data entry, labeling, filling, and fulfillment tasks.
  • Experience with prior authorization processes.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel and Access.
  • Proficiency in data entry with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new computer software and pharmacy systems.

  • Experience working in a fast‑paced, high‑volume pharmacy environment.
Work Environment

This position is 100% onsite in a clinic pharmacy setting. The pharmacy operates in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment, processing approximately 1,500 prescriptions per week as a team. You will work alongside a collaborative staff of six pharmacy technicians and three pharmacists, with three technicians and one PharmD typically scheduled on Saturdays. The standard schedule is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The work involves extensive use of pharmacy software systems, e‑prescribing tools, fax communications, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access. The environment emphasizes professionalism, teamwork, and strong customer service, offering a fun yet professional atmosphere where accuracy, efficiency, and patient care are top priorities.

This is a Contract position based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00 /hr.
