Qualifications

Job Description - Registered Nurse - Wound Care PRN (7460-9765)

Position Summary

Provides direct and indirect patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Meets the physical, psychosocial, religious/cultural and needs of the patient and family. Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team as appropriate about changes in the patient’s condition or response to treatment.

Reports to: Director of Radiology

Responsibilities of the Position

  1. Plan for 24hr care by assessing, monitoring, and documenting level of functioning, health status, mental status, medical history, medication compliance and treatment needs.
  2. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific for the patient’s age.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and the patient’s clinical condition.
  4. Formulates, implements and revises the patient’s plan of care based on the patient’s diagnosis and clinical symptoms.
  5. Formulates, implements and revises the patient’s educational plan.
  6. Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
  7. Performs treatments and provides services to the level of licensure.
  8. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors.
  9. Coordinates and supervises patient care.
  10. Meets current documentation standards and policies.
  11. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of the patients and their families.
  12. Communicates clearly and professionally with all members of the health care team.
  13. Notifies physicians in a timely manner of changes in the patient’s condition and response to treatment.
  14. Maintains a good working relationship and treats others with respect within the department and with all other hospital departments.
  15. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  16. Educates patient and family on disease process.
  17. Utilizes supplies and resources in a cost-effective manner.
  18. You will be utilizing current evidence-based practice to provide quality care to the patients of our community. Types of wounds treated include diabetic, surgical, arterial and/or venous insufficiency, skin damage or sores caused by radiation treatment, non-healing skin grafts or surgical flaps, osteomyelitis, crush injuries, and more. You will have the opportunity to work with specialty dressings and wraps, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, bio-engineered tissue substitutes, and other advanced modalities.
  19. Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Completed Associate's Degree or Successful completion of an accredited nursing certification program.

Certifications/Licenses

A current North Carolina or compact stated Registered Nurse (RN) license is required upon hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire.

Wound Care certification is preferred.

Handle with care is preferred.

Required Skills

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Medical Surgical, home health, or wound care experience is preferred.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Willing to be part of a Teaching and Learning environment.
