Job Description

The Department of Mental Health (DMH), Tewksbury Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nurse Manager to work with resilient patients navigating their journey on the road to recovery.

Details: This position is 40 hours per week, 1st shift (8:30am-5:00pm), Days off: Saturday/Sunday.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct patient care, supervision, and instruction to adult mentally ill and forensic patients on inpatient psychiatric units.
  • Practice principles of CARE, including safety measures like controlled takedown, restraint, and seclusion when necessary.
  • Assess patient needs, administer treatments, plan interventions, and evaluate conditions.
  • Provide patient instruction for independent management of personal hygiene and health needs.
  • Identify and respond to changes in patient conditions, document and report accordingly.
  • Follow policies for medication and treatment administration.
  • Offer psychosocial support through individual counseling and group work.
  • Utilize early intervention and de-escalation techniques, including restraint and seclusion when unavoidable.
  • Maintain awareness of regulations regarding patient rights and safety.
  • Ensure quality care standards are met and maintained.
  • Address patient complaints and resolve issues to improve satisfaction.
  • Evaluate nursing activities and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise staff, evaluate performance, and ensure ongoing staff development.
  • Maintain knowledge of standards from DMH, DPH, CMS, Joint Commission, and HIPAA.
  • Participate in committees, meetings, and training programs.
Qualifications:
  • Expertise in patient care and nursing practices.
  • Knowledge of interview techniques and healthcare regulations.
  • Experience with supervision and healthcare administration.
  • Current and valid Massachusetts RN license.
Preferred:
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.
Additional Information:

Applicants must meet experience requirements, including at least 3 years as a registered nurse, with 2 years in supervisory roles. Substitutions for education may apply. A valid Massachusetts RN license is required. The position may require a valid driver's license depending on assignment.
