Average Daily Census: 34. Beds: 36.

Patient Diagnoses

• Neurosurgery, post-spine surgery, neuroscience, stroke and epilepsy, ortho, pre-op, post-op.

SPECIAL PROCEDURES

• PCA Pumps, Syringe Pumps
• PICC/Central Lines, Port-A-Cath, Vascular Access/Care
• Traction/Halo/Pin Care
• Triple Lumen Catheter

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

Per nurse manager: Preference for neuro/CVA and either orthopedic or neuro surgery experience. Fast-paced neuro specialty unit. Travelers with med-surg experience floating to neuro/neuro surgery are considered.

Documentation: Pyxis, EPIC (REQUIRED). Communication: SBAR.

Skills

Work Settings: Med/Surg (REQUIRED), MS/Tele (PREFERRED).

Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency response: Telemetry - remote monitoring, Rapid Response Teams (PREFERRED).

Gastrointestinal: Colostomy care, Feeding tube management (REQUIRED).

IV therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood Product Administration, Central line blood draw, Peripheral Line Care, Phlebotomy, PICC line management, Starting IVs (REQUIRED).

Medications: Heparin, Insulin, PCA (REQUIRED).

Neurological/Psychiatric: Pre/Post Neuro Surgery (REQUIRED), CVA, Spinal cord injuries, Traumatic Brain injury (PREFERRED).

Plastics: Surgical drains (REQUIRED).

Respiratory: Nasal Cannula, Oral suctioning, Tracheostomy Management (REQUIRED).

Professional Knowledge and Skills: Isolation Precautions, Wound Care/Wound Vac (REQUIRED).

Teaching Hospital Experience: Preferred.

Staffing Ratio: 1:5.

Float: Yes, to Acute Rehab, Telemetry, Neuro Telemetry, to meet unit needs within scope of practice.

CERTS: BCLS REQUIRED.

Required Skills: CVA and either ortho or neuro surg experience.
