Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) seeks a Registered Nurse to join the Surgical Stepdown IMCU unit. The RN will deliver patient-centered care in a 38-bed unit serving post-operative and specialty patients, including trauma, vascular, neurosurgery, transplant, and cardiothoracic cases.

The role requires a Massachusetts RN license, BLS, and ACLS where applicable, with a 24-hour day/night rotation and rotating weekends. BMC offers a Magnet-recognized environment and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Massachusetts.
• 1+ years of RN experience preferred.
• BLS certification; ACLS certification required in certain units.

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care in the Critical Care unit.
• Communicate with health care team members, patients, and families.
• Coordinate and delegate patient care activities to inter-professional colleagues.
• Update and manage patient records.
• Enter and interpret computerized data/information.
• Follow guidelines and policies of the nursing organization.
• Assist leadership in quality improvement projects.

About the Critical Care/3W IMCU Department at Boston Medical Center

BMC's Surgical Step Down unit is a 38-bed unit providing care for intermediate level surgical patients. The patient population consists of post-operative and surgical specialty patients, including trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, transplant patients and cardiothoracic surgery.

Position Summary

As an RN in the Critical Care unit, you will play an integral role in delivering exceptional care. Using our patient-centered care model you will be uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, and will be able to deliver the excellent care to your patients that they deserve.

Job Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care in the Critical Care unit, including assessing, diagnosing, planning, intervening, evaluating, and educating patients
• Communicate with various health care team members, patients, and their families
• Coordinate and delegate appropriate patient care activities to inter-professional colleagues
• Update and manage patient records
• Enter and interpret computerized data/information
• Follow guidelines and policies established by BMC’s nursing organization
• Assist the leadership team as needed in quality improvement projects

Job Requirements

• Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• 1+ years of RN experience preferred
• Certification in basic life support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS) certification required in certain units
• Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred), Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years
• Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, certification required for certain practice areas
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
• Basic computer proficiency
• Fluency in another language a plus
