Job summary

Shriners Children’s seeks a Registered Nurse for Surgical Services to provide expert perioperative care to pediatric patients and ensure safe, high-quality surgical outcomes. The RN will coordinate direct patient care, educate families, and oversee transitions of care in the operating room.

The role supports professional nursing practice, adheres to the hospital’s Practice Model, and emphasizes leadership, mentoring, and quality improvement. Neonatal and pediatric OR experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• RN license in state of practice.
• BLS certification.
• PEAR, PALS, ACLS: Obtain within 1 year of employment as required by hospital.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care in the operating room.
• Support professional nursing practice across settings to meet patient and family needs.
• Function within the hospital's Professional Practice Model (FOCUSED) with accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care.
• Follow the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice as the basis for RN practice.
• Provide leadership through activities such as preceptor roles and formal/informal leadership and quality improvement.
• Delegate patient care according to skill, experience, acuity, resources and budget.
• Demonstrate excellent communication, mentoring and teaching; possibly participate on committees or projects.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) Surgical Services provides expert nursing care to pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and a safe perioperative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• The coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care in the operating room.

• Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.

• Will function within the Shriners Hospitals for Children Professional Practice Model (FOCUSED), which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.

• The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN.

• Provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.

• Delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources.

• Possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

Required Qualifications

• RN license in state of practice

• BLS

• PEAR, PALS, ACLS: Obtain within 1 year of employment as required by hospital

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN

• 2+ years acute care experience

• OR nursing experience

• Prior pediatric acute care, plastic reconstructive surgery and laser experience a plus

Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
