Job summary

North Saint Paul Maplewood & Oakdale School District 622 is seeking a Registered Nurse I to support students district-wide. The nurse will triage health concerns, plan for students with health conditions, and manage student health needs in the health office.

Qualifications include MN RN license, CPR certification, in-district travel, and knowledge of applicable laws. The role involves administering medications, maintaining health records, and coordinating with families and school staff.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Delegate nursing procedures to school personnel as allowed by MN Nurse Practice Act.
• Follow ISD 622 policies and applicable laws related to school health services.
• Maintain health service records in Campus System.
• Assess student health status and provide health counseling and education to students and families.
• Administer medications per physician orders and parent authorization.
• Promote immunization programs and disease control; monitor health data and health plans (504s, IHPs, ECPs).
• Refer to parents, school, and community resources as needed.
• Support crisis intervention and student wellness initiatives.

Summary: The Registered Nurse 1 position will support the students of 622 by triaging student health concerns in the health office, planning for students with health conditions, and managing the health needs of our students.

Required Qualifications:

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the MN Board of Nursing
• Current CPR certification
• Valid Driver's License (in-district travel required)
• Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations
• Commitment to confidentiality regarding students and staff
• Skilled in developing and maintaining good working relationships with school personnel and the community

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a school nurse

Responsibilities:

• Delegates to school personnel the performance of skilled nursing procedures, according to the MN Nurse Practice Act
• Demonstrates knowledge of ISD 622 policies as well as state and federal laws related to school health service programs
• Participates in research and evaluation of school health services
• Administer medications in accordance with physicians' orders and parent authorization, using ISD 622 procedures and School Board Policy
• Communicate medication administration policies and procedures to parents
• Maintenance of health service records within the Campus System
• Observes students for developmental and health related status
• Maintains, evaluates and interprets health data to access and accommodate individual needs in accordance with ISD 622 and the MN Data Practices Act, HIPAA, FERPA
• Promotes and assists in communicable disease control through immunization programs, early detection, monitoring and reporting
• Initiates referrals to parents, school and community resources for intervention and follow-up
• Provides on-going health counseling and health education to students and families
• Recommends and assists with implementation of school programs to meet students' health needs: 504 plans, Individual Health Plans (IHP's), and Emergency Care Plans (ECP's)
• Implements school health management protocol for students with acute and/or chronic health conditions (includes the administration of medication and other medically directed treatments)
• Utilizes District 622 first aid guidelines and infectious disease guideline when caring for students and staff
• Participates with the crisis intervention team for acute illness, injury and emotional crisis
• Promotes parental skill development and learning
• Provides support, outreach and referral to students regarding reproductive health issues, mental health concerns and substance use/abuse
• Serves as a resource to teachers providing health information and supports employee wellness programs
• Obtain knowledge of OSHA standards
• Attend annual mandatory Blood Borne Pathogen Training
• Assist legal authorities as requested by Principal
• Attends required in-service education offerings, CPR and First Aid Training
• Perform duties applicable and accountable to the level of education and/or licensure
• Perform general office duties as follows: Answer phone, voice mail and e-mail; File; Record pertinent data into Campus; Order and inventory supplies bi-annually
