Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program.
  • Recent 1 year Med/Surg experience required.
  • Critical care experience preferred.
  • Licenses & Certifications include NY RN license and BLS; ACLS, PALS, TNCC within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the nursing process to provide care and outcomes for patients.
  • Documents assessments, reassessments, progress toward goals, and all required documentation.
  • Promotes patient safety and quality, adhering to national safety goals.
  • Communicates effectively with the health care team and escalates appropriately.
  • Establishes caring relationships with staff, patients, families, and other team members.
  • Administers medications and parenteral therapy per policy, including blood administration.
  • Prioritizes patient care and coordinates care independently or with delegation.
  • Provides patient/family education and assists discharge planning.

About This Role

The Registered Nurse SICU at NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn is responsible for nursing care and outcomes for a group of patients, providing care through the nursing process in collaboration with the health team.

What You'll Do
  • Performs other duties as aligned with the mission and values of the organization.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability for own professional practice and professional growth.
  • Documents patient assessment reassessment progress toward goal achievement and all other required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Promotes patient safety and quality including adherence to the National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with members of the health care team escalating situations appropriately.
  • Establishes effective caring relationships with staff, patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
  • Administers medication and parenteral therapy in accordance with policy and procedure including blood administration.
  • Establishes priorities for patient care delivery and uses critical thinking skills to coordinate and complete patient care responsibilities independently or by appropriately delegating.
  • Provides patient/family education and assists in discharge planning utilizing resources and considering patient/family readiness barriers and alternatives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age-related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area.
Requirements

Education:

  • Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program

Experience:

  • Recent 1 year Med/Surg experience required
  • Critical care experience preferred

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse License-NYS
  • BLS Certification through the American Heart Association
  • ACLS required within 3 months
  • PALS required within 6 months
  • TNCC required within 1 year
  • Specialty certification preferred
