Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Short Stay Observation Unit at Mercy Medical Center in downtown Cedar Rapids. We offer day, night, and weekend option shifts, with a sign-on bonus up to $15,000 and relocation assistance where eligible.

We welcome both experienced nurses and new graduates to join our 28-bed unit that handles 24–48 hour stays after ED visits or surgeries. Mentorship and orientation support are provided to help you grow across specialties.

Qualifications

Mercy Cedar Rapids is hiring registered nurses (RN), experienced and new graduates, to join our 28-bed Short Stay Observation (SSO) Unit. This unique unit cares for patients who need short hospital stays (typically 24–48 hours) following the Emergency Department visit or surgery.

As a part of the SSO team, you’ll care for a diverse patient population including post-op, orthopedic, urology, cardiology, and acute pain cases. It’s an ideal environment for nurses who want to build broad clinical skills while helping patients safely transition home.
