The RN provides direct patient care pre-operative and post-procedure in the Cardiac Cath Lab, Radiology, and Infusion departments, coordinating with the care team and implementing a written plan of care.

Responsibilities include IV starts, phlebotomy, and medication administration; supports TEE, cardioversions, and discharge planning; requires Indiana RN license with ACLS/BLS.

Qualifications

  • RN must hold Indiana license and ACLS/BLS certifications.
  • Experience in preoperative and post-procedure cardiac/infusion care is preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary team and document in EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preoperative care, recovery, and discharge for outpatients; document care plans.
  • Perform IV starts, phlebotomy, and related procedures per policy.
  • Assist cardiology procedures (TEE, cardioversion) and imaging services.
  • Administer medications as ordered; monitor for adverse reactions.
  • Provide patient education and discharge information; communicate plan to team.
  • May precept new staff and support other care team members.

Job description

The Staff Nurse for Cardiology and Infusion Services, is a Registered Nurse that provides direct nursing care to patients who are pre-operative and/or recovering from procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab, Radiology, and Infusion departments, through assessment, plan of care creation and implementation and coordination with other care providers within the hospital system.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of preoperative care, recovery and discharge of all outpatients. Observes, documents, addresses, and implements planned interventions/care, communicating the plan to all members of the team through accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and, when needed, through verbal reports. Documents accurate patient information in compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides patient care through the performance of selective procedures that include but are not limited to IV starts and restarts, blood administration and phlebotomy tasks, answering call lights and serving as testing personnel under CLIA1988 regulations as they relate to point of care testing. Assists Cardiologist in transesophageal echocardiograms and cardioversions. Performs Tilt table testing and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms independently. Assists Radiologist in removal of dialysis catheters and a range of diagnostic testing procedures. Provides customer focused care and safety in a chemotherapy setting.
  • Creates, and implements, a written plan of care that addresses the specific needs and goals of each individual patient, making referrals to other professional services as required. Modifies the plan of care based on reassessment of the patient including observed patient response to treatment/care and evaluation of patient's progress toward goal completion and delegates tasks to team members, as appropriate within their scope of practice.
  • Administers medications, accurately and timely according to physician orders and organizational policy and procedure. Maintains knowledge of medication actions and side effects, recognizing allergic reactions and documenting patients’ response to drugs.
  • Successfully transitions patients, communicating the most current plan of care, through walking rounds and providing accurate, timely report to incoming staff.
  • Advises physicians, other disciplines, family/significant others of changes in patient's condition or abnormal findings. Communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Provides clear, specific educational and discharge information to each patient and/or patient family member.
  • May precept new employees and oversee other members of the care team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Associate Degree from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Preferred: Bachelor Degree from an accredited school of Nursing

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum: None required
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of nursing experience and two (2) years recovery experience in a Cardiovascular unit and/or Surgical Services. Chemotherapy experience. Experience in imaging services

License/Certification Requirements

  • Registered Nurse valid to practice in the state of Indiana
  • Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association)
