RWJBarnabas Health in New Brunswick, NJ is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Main Hospital Surgical Unit-II. This hourly Day shift role covers a 33-bed unit with telemetry and intermediate-care beds, offering growth in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities include patient assessments, safe medication administration, interdisciplinary collaboration, patient education, and meticulous documentation in EPIC.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• ACLS Certification and BLS Certification required.
• At least 2 years of Surgical or Med/Surge RN experience is preferred.
• Associate's degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and recognize clinical changes.
• Administer medications and provide hands-on nursing care.
• Collaborate with physicians and providers to coordinate care.
• Educate patients and families to support informed decisions.
• Document accurately in EMR to ensure continuity of care.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and promote teamwork.

Our 33-bed medical-surgical unit cares for a diverse and complex patient population, specializing in trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and GI surgery. We also have 10 intermediate-care beds, along with telemetry and medical patients, creating a fast-paced environment with endless opportunities to learn and grow. We are an evidence-based, education-focused unit where nurses are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and have a voice in how we practice. We believe some of the best improvements come directly from the people at the bedside, and we work together to turn good ideas into practice.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
• Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. An Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification and at least 2 years of Surgical or Med/Surge RN experience are required. An Associate's degree in Nursing is also required. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is strongly preferred, as is prior patient care experience and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position is DayShift, 36 hours per week, 7am-7:30pm.
