Job summary

Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville, VA is seeking an Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our busy surgical team. The OR nurse will assist with procedures, ensure sterility, and support preoperative and postoperative care for patients.

This PRN position offers a Weekdays 6:30 am to 3:00 pm schedule with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits. Virginia RN licensure, BLS, ACLS and PALS within set timelines are required.

Qualifications

• Active Virginia RN license (single-state) or compact license.
• If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new PSOR before employment begins.
• Proven work experience as an Operating Room Nurse or similar role in a healthcare setting preferred.
• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS within 90 days of hire.
• CNOR certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess and prepare patients prior to surgery and address concerns.
• Ensure sterile technique and proper functioning of surgical instruments.
• Assist surgical teams during operations and adjust treatment as needed.
• Prepare the operating room by setting up instruments and equipment.
• Monitor patient vital signs during surgery and notify team of changes.
• Provide postoperative care and education to patients and families.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
• Comply with health and safety regulations including infection control procedures.

More About Our Team

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Operating Room Nurse to join our growing healthcare team. The Operating Room Nurse will work alongside surgical teams to ensure that patients are receiving the best possible care and serve as a liaison between the surgical team and the patients' families. The ideal candidate will have experience in a busy operating room environment, with a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and patient safety. They will also be adept at providing preoperative and postoperative care, and in handling and sterilizing surgical equipment and instruments.

How You'll Contribute

• Assess patients prior to surgery and alleviate their concerns
• Ensure that all instruments are sterile and surgical equipment is in working order
• Assist surgical teams during operations and adjust treatment as needed
• Prepare the operating room for surgery by setting up surgical instruments and equipment
• Monitor patient vital signs during surgery and alert the surgical team to any changes
• Provide postoperative care and education to patients and their families
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records
• Comply with all health and safety regulations, including sanitation and infection control procedures

What We're Looking For

Applicants should have an active Virginia RN license (single-state) or compact license. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.

Additional Requirements Include

• Proven work experience as an Operating Room Nurse or similar role in a healthcare setting preferred
• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire
• ACLS and PALS within 90 days of hire
• CNOR Certification is preferred
