Job summary

Advocate Health’s West Allis Medical Center in Wisconsin is seeking nurses for the 5 South Stroke ACE Med/Surg unit. This 34-bed acute care unit cares for stroke, seizures, neuro-focused cases and more.

New grads and experienced RNs are welcome, with Nurse Residency and strong orientation to support skill development. Expect 12-hour shifts on a 6-week self-schedule, with 7:00 pm–7:30 am hours, every third weekend and partial holiday rotation.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program.
• Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• New RN's and Experienced RN's welcome.

Responsibilities

• Build foundational nursing skills through Nurse Residency and Preceptor-directed orientation.
• Develop time management, triaging, communication, pharmacology, and lab interpretation skills with med/surg patients.
• Coordinate comprehensive patient care using the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care.
• Develop collaborative relationships with a multidisciplinary team.
• Provide continuity of care through 12-hour shifts (7:00 pm–7:30 am) and weekend/holiday rotations.

Where you will work:

5 South: Stroke ACE Med/Surg is a 34 inpatient acute care Med/Surg unit caring for a wide variety of diagnosis including Stroke, Seizures, Neuro focus, Diabetes, Electrolyte imbalance, Kidney Disease, Mental Health, Dementia, Alzheimer’s. This is an excellent unit to build a neurological focus, foundational skills, become certified in the specialty of Med/Surg and develop specialized skills applicable to any area in nursing.

• Typical RN to Patient Ratio: Days: 1:4-5, Nights: 1:5-6

What we are looking for:

• Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing

What you will do:

• Build foundational skills and knowledge through Nurse Residency and Preceptor directed orientation.
• Build skills in time management, triaging accountabilities, communication skills, pharmacology, lab interpretation, pathophysiology of disease process through a variety of med/surg patients with acute and chronic conditions.
• Coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
• Develop collaborative relationships with a resourceful multi-disciplinary team.
• Provide continuity of patient care through 12-hour shifts, patient centered care and team minded support.
• Be a valued member of a highly skilled, resilient, and versatile nursing team committed to ensuring the delivery of quality and compassionate healthcare to diverse patient populations.

Schedule:

• Self-scheduling: 6-week schedules
• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 pm to 7:30 am
• Every third weekend and 50% holiday rotation
