Inova Loudoun Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Sepsis Coordinator for a part-time schedule (24 hours per week) in Leesburg, VA. The role focuses on early sepsis identification, education, and program leadership, including monthly meetings and data tracking.

The candidate will collaborate with physicians, support quality improvement initiatives, and help standardize sepsis protocols across the facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required with 16 hours in specialized sepsis education.
• Experience: 2 years of acute care including one year of quality performance improvement experience.
• Licensed in Virginia as a Registered Nurse; BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with physicians to identify and intervene in sepsis early; interpret data to identify sepsis patients.
• Improve outcomes related to sepsis management and complex sepsis issues.
• Educates patients and families on sepsis-related techniques and plans continuing education programs for staff.
• Track sepsis data and support quality/improvement processes; ensure sepsis protocols are followed.

Registered Nurse (RN) Sepsis Coordinator Job Responsibilities

• Collaborates with physicians and staff in an effort to facilitate early identification and intervention to decrease sepsis mortality and length of stay. Assists clinicians with performing comprehensive assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data to identify patients with sepsis
• Improve outcomes related to sepsis management and complex sepsis issues.
• Acts as a consultant in the clinical setting and a a subject matter expert, teaching patients and families on techniques related to sepsis.
• Plans, implements and evaluates cost effective sepsis related continuing education programs for staff.
• Tracks, supports and submits hospital sepsis data to the clinical team, quality department and national benchmarking agencies
• Achieves departmental/organizational objectives and performs sepsis care for patients that promotes excellence.
• Develops data driven clinical quality improvement by utilizing Inova Health System's quality improvement methodology.
• Ensures the protocols and therapies for sepsis become the standard of care followed within the facility. Participates in rounds with Physicians who are monitoring sepsis patients
• Conducts monthly sepsis program meetings to evaluate outcomes, develop policies/protocols, review current best practices through networking and ongoing education to enhance the overall program
• Coordinates process improvement activities by assigning specific tasks intended to improve performance to various departments and conducting the appropriate follow-up to ensure successful outcomesEvaluates compliance with interdisciplinary sepsis documentation, sepsis bundle compliance and Physician utilization of sepsis orders
• Participates in a minimum of 80 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 18 formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
• May perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; Must have 16 hours in specialized sepsis education
• Experience: 2 years of acute care including one year of quality performance improvement experience
• Certification: Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse; Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years’ clinical experience in ED/Critical Care/Acute Care/Inpatient/Rapid Response Team; EPIC; Excel reports
• Certification: CPR; knowledge of ACLS; PALS is a plus
• Other: independent, self-motivated, strong communication, critical thinking skills; willingness to join the Sepsis Alliance Institute and AHA Living Learning Network.
