Job summary

Inova Loudoun Hospital, part of Inova Health System, seeks a Registered Nurse Sepsis Coordinator in Leesburg, VA. The 24-hour-per-week role involves supporting early sepsis identification, clinician education, and performance improvement with a flexible schedule.

The RN will collaborate with physicians, track sepsis data, and participate in monthly meetings to enhance patient outcomes and adherence to sepsis protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing with current Virginia RN license and BLS.
• Minimum 2 years acute care experience including quality/performance improvement.
• Experience with sepsis initiatives and data tracking preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate early identification and intervention for sepsis with clinical teams.
• Lead sepsis education programs and performance improvement projects.

Inova Loudoun Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Sepsis Coordinator to join the team. This role will be part-time; 24-hours per week; flexible schedule; required to attend mandatory sepsis-related meetings.

Registered Nurse (RN) Sepsis Coordinator Job Responsibilities

• Collaborates with physicians and staff in an effort to facilitate early identification and intervention to decrease sepsis mortality and length of stay. Assists clinicians with performing comprehensive assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data to identify patients with sepsis
• Improve outcomes related to sepsis management and complex sepsis issues.
• Acts as a consultant in the clinical setting and a a subject matter expert, teaching patients and families on techniques related to sepsis.
• Plans, implements and evaluates cost effective sepsis related continuing education programs for staff.
• Tracks, supports and submits hospital sepsis data to the clinical team, quality department and national benchmarking agencies
• Achieves departmental/organizational objectives and performs sepsis care for patients that promotes excellence.
• Develops data driven clinical quality improvement by utilizing Inova Health System's quality improvement methodology.
• Ensures the protocols and therapies for sepsis become the standard of care followed within the facility. Participates in rounds with Physicians who are monitoring sepsis patients
• Conducts monthly sepsis program meetings to evaluate outcomes, develop policies/protocols, review current best practices through networking and ongoing education to enhance the overall program
• Coordinates process improvement activities by assigning specific tasks intended to improve performance to various departments and conducting the appropriate follow-up to ensure successful outcomes
• Evaluates compliance with interdisciplinary sepsis documentation, sepsis bundle compliance and Physician utilization of sepsis orders
• Participates in a minimum of 80 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 18 formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
• May perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; Must have 16 hours in specialized sepsis education

Experience: 2 years of acute care including one year of quality performance improvement experience

Certification: Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse; Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years’ clinical experience in ED/Critical Care/Acute Care/Inpatient/Rapid Response Team; EPIC; Excel reports

Certification: CPR; knowledge of ACLS; PALS is a plus

Other: independent, self-motivated, strong communication, critical thinking skills; willingness to join the Sepsis Alliance Institute and AHA Living Learning Network.
