Advocate Health in Milwaukee is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the Same Day Surgery unit at 0.8 FTE. The role focuses on outpatient procedures pre- and post-care, with a collaborative, supportive culture in a Bariatric Center of Excellence and GYN teaching hospital setting.

Responsibilities include delivering individualized nursing care, monitoring patient status, coordinating care and discharge planning, and participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Completed accredited nursing program.
  • RN license in the practicing state.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association).
  • 1–2 years of inpatient med/surg/ICU/ED or perioperative experience.

  • Deliver individualized care using the nursing process: assess, plan, implement, evaluate.
  • Monitor and respond to patient condition, activating team resources as needed.
  • Promote patient safety by applying risk-reduction strategies and reporting safety events.
  • Educate patients and families, tailoring teaching to needs and discharge readiness.
  • Coordinate care and discharge planning with an interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity.
  • Lead and delegate effectively, supporting unlicensed staff and teamwork.

Registered Nurse (RN) – Same Day Surgery Sinai 0.8 FTE

Where you will work

Downtown Milwaukee, WI, United States

  • Patient Bays: 20

  • Patient Population: outpatient procedures prep and recovery of outpatient ortho, GYN, general bariatric, robotic, urology, plastics, dental and ECT patient and IV therapy, Pre-admission testing

  • Culture: Collaborative, friendly, caring, and supportive

  • Skill Mix: Experienced nurses and aides

  • Staffing & Ratios:

    • Elective surgeries scheduled 0715–1700

  • Schedule:

    • Rotating staggered start times (0730–0830)

  • Additional Info:

We’re Looking For:
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

  • Having 1-2 years of inpatient nursing med/surg ,ICU or ED. or periop experience

  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and unit performance.

  • Maintain professional growth through ongoing education, competency completion, and participation in shared governance activities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
  • Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
  • Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
  • May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
  • Physical Abilities Testing may be required.
  • Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
