Join a leading healthcare team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital as a Rapid Response Nurse. You will be vital in managing acute patient care, responding urgently to medical emergencies, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role demands strong communication and assessment skills, providing a dynamic and supportive environment for career growth and development.
General Summary of Position
MedStar Georgetown University Hospital RRT:
Rapid Response Nurses are part of the medical team who respond to medical emergencies in the hospital. Nurses caring for patients they believe are clinically unstable are encouraged to call a “Rapid Response.” The Rapid Response nurse arrives urgently at the bedside to provide quick assessment and intervention. The Rapid Response Team (RRT) consists of an experienced RN, Respiratory Therapist, and Physician.
The RRT Nurse quickly assesses the patient using the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) communication tool. Under the medical team's direction, the RR nurse takes clinical lead from the floor nurse to provide emergent clinical interventions when necessary. The RR nurse plays an invaluable role in managing acute patient care and educating the floor nursing team. If needed, the RRT will transport the patient to the ICU for a higher level of care. The Rapid Response nurse acts as the "link" between units for safe and expedited care transition.
The RRT Nurse must have strong communication skills, thrive under pressure, and possess significant clinical knowledge. Their keen assessment skills help save lives and improve patient outcomes. The team approach ensures quick, multidisciplinary, and collaborative patient care.
The RRT is a team of nurses and advanced practice providers responsible for managing and implementing advanced critical care nursing during acute patient situations outside of adult ICUs. The team provides emergency care, immediate evaluation, and prompt disposition, aiming to improve outcomes through early intervention during clinical deterioration.
