Job Summary
Triages incoming referrals for appropriateness and coordinates multidisciplinary visits, including interventional radiology physicians, radiologists, and oncologists. Assists in obtaining diagnostic and pertinent patient information prior to visits and arranges support services for consultation and disease management. Ensures timely access to interventional radiologists for referring physicians and patients. Coordinates multidisciplinary teams for specific patient populations. Acts as a clinical resource, educator, and consultant, providing expedited, quality patient care efficiently.

Serves as a resource for regional referring physicians on procedures such as Vertebroplasty, Sacroplasty, TIPS, peritoneal drains, percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram with biliary stent placement, liver-directed therapies (Y90, TAVE, microwave ablation), cryotherapy, cyst ablation, UAE, gonadal vein embolization, sclerotherapy, AVM vein sampling, and STAR ablation.
Triages new and potential referrals, acting as liaison between multidisciplinary teams, referring physicians, support staff, and patients. Coordinates patient visits to ensure timely care.
Provides clinical support, ensuring all patient needs are met, and arranges follow-up care, tests, procedures, and visits. Educates patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and tests, providing educational resources.
Communicates signs of disease exacerbation or maladaptation to the healthcare team.
Prepares relevant patient information for consultations or procedures, including test results, history, and physical documentation.
Provides emotional support to patients and families as needed.
Triages calls from healthcare providers and patients regarding procedure complications or problems.
Additional Responsibilities
Assists in obtaining physician notes, diagnostic info, pathology reports, labs, radiology films, and H&Ps for patient visits. Schedules tests and ensures results are available on the day of the visit. May assist in other radiology areas as needed.
Serves as Research Coordinator for interventional radiology studies, ensuring compliance with IRB requirements and proper documentation.
Attends weekly MDC GI conferences to review IR referrals and develop treatment plans.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, or director.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
Experience: Two (2) years of nursing experience.
In Lieu Of
Diploma or associate degree in nursing may be considered if the applicant commits to enrolling in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and completing it within four years.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Current South Carolina R.N. License.
Oncology Nursing and/or Imaging Nursing certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of office equipment (fax, copier).
Proficient in computer skills, including spreadsheets.
Data entry skills.
Knowledge of Interventional Radiology procedures preferred.
Knowledge of medical research preferred.
