Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH, is seeking a Psychiatry Float Pool RN for a full-time 32-hour week position in a day/evening rotating shift at College Hill A. Qualifications

  • Associate/Diploma RN from ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited program.
  • External candidates without a BSN or MSN must enroll in a BSN or MSN within 1 year of hire and complete the program within 5 years.
  • Active Ohio RN License; may be required to obtain additional state licensure.
  • Foreign graduates must have license validated through TruMerit per Ohio Board of Nursing code for Foreign Graduates.
  • Pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certification Course during orientation.
  • Preferred: BSN or MSN from ACEN or CCNE accredited institution.

Responsibilities

  • Milieu Management & Patient Safety: Create a safe, stable environment using trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate strategies; implement token economy; respond to crises with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and perform safety checks and environmental risk assessments.
  • Nursing Care & Clinical Judgment: Assess patient needs, develop care plans, administer medications, coordinate physical and mental health interventions, support activities of daily living, and maintain observation levels.
  • Group Programming & Therapeutic Engagement: Lead or support structured group programming, adapt to developmental needs, engage patients, build rapport, and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Compliance & Safety Leadership: Maintain knowledge of accreditation standards, renew certifications and renewals on schedule, partner with nurse councils and Magnet representatives, report safety concerns, promote accountability.
  • Documentation & Communication: Document assessments, care interventions, incident reports, safety checks, and patient progress; serve as liaison between Behavioral Health Specialists and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Professional Development & Team Collaboration: Work with physicians, APNs, social workers, and families to support continuity of care, assign tasks, participate in shared decision-making, and mentor new staff.
  • Cultural Competence & Advocacy: Assess cultural factors impacting care, integrate patient preferences, and advocate ethically for patients and families.

Job Responsibilities
  • Milieu Management & Patient Safety: Create a safe, stable, nurturing environment using trauma‑informed and developmentally appropriate strategies for patients with a range of psychiatric challenges. Implement a token economy, proactively prevent and respond to crises with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies, and perform safety checks and environmental risk assessments.
  • Nursing Care & Clinical Judgment: Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment to assess patient needs, develop care plans, administer medications, coordinate physical and mental health interventions, support activities of daily living, and maintain accurate observation levels while recognizing changes in patient condition.
  • Group Programming & Therapeutic Engagement: Lead or support structured group programming, modify delivery to meet developmental needs, engage patients meaningfully, build therapeutic rapport, and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Compliance & Safety Leadership: Maintain knowledge of accreditation standards, complete certifications and renewals on schedule, partner with nurse councils and Magnet representatives, identify and report safety and compliance concerns, and promote a culture of accountability.
  • Documentation & Communication: Accurately document assessments, care interventions, incident reports, safety checks, and patient progress. Serve as the communication bridge between Behavioral Health Specialists and the interdisciplinary team, clarify clinical priorities, and participate in family‑centered rounds.
  • Professional Development & Team Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, APNs, social workers, allied health providers, and families to support continuity of care, assign tasks, engage in shared decision‑making, participate in performance reviews, and mentor new staff. Collaborate across disciplines using the Interprofessional Practice Model.
  • Cultural Competence & Advocacy: Assess cultural factors impacting care, integrate individual preferences, and advocate ethically for patients and families who may be unable to self‑advocate.
