Job summary

Maria Parham Health in Henderson, NC is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Emergency Department on a PRN/Varied schedule. You will provide direct patient care using the nursing process, document care, and collaborate across disciplines to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The role requires an active NC RN license (or compact), ASN, and certifications in BLS, PALS, and ACLS, with at least two years of RN experience. Flexible shifts, strong teamwork, and continuing education are supported.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina (or compact license).
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited nursing program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (required).
• PALS and ACLS (required).
• Two years of RN experience (required).
• Active North Carolina RN license (single state) or compact required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new PSOR before employment begins.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care in the Emergency Department using the nursing process.
• Document patient care provided.
• Monitor, record and communicate patient condition to the care team, physician, patient and family.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living.
• Coordinate patient care across disciplines including transfers and discharges.
• Provide education based on age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Advocate for patient wellbeing and participate in quality improvement.

Maria Parham is home to the region's largest and most comprehensive Emergency Department, staffed 24/7 by board-certified emergency physicians, experienced nurses, and highly trained support staff dedicated to delivering exceptional emergency care. With 20 treatment beds, the department is equipped to meet a wide range of emergency healthcare needs. Summary

Provides direct patient care in the Emergency Department using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Reports to: Director or Manager of Emergency Department

Essential Functions

• Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments and other medical care activities.


• Documents patient care provided


• Monitors, records and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient and family.


• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition and ambulation.


• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care including transfers, discharges, referrals and psychosocial/spiritual support needs.


• Evaluates patient and family learning needs and provides appropriate education based on age, culture, condition and circumstances.


• Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient


• Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.


• Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts or units as needed.


• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

How You'll Contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:

• Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs


• Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions


• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient


• Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record


• Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient


• Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

Additional Information

• Patient populations served: Neonate, infant, early childhood, late childhood, adolescent, young adult, middle adult and older adult.


• Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete medical records


• Exposure: Occupations exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present for all employees


• Physical requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
