Job Description
Registered Nurse (RN) PICU
12 hr D/N rotating or straight Noc shifts - shift will be determined at time of offer. Next available start dates are 3/31 or 5/5.
The PICU RN provides Relationship Based Care for patients/families with acute and chronic diseases, disorders found in the pediatric and adolescent into young adult populations. Utilizes enhanced specialty knowledge and skills to provide nursing excellence to patients within designated patient care area(s). Utilizes the nursing process and performs responsibilities in five areas of nursing practice: clinician, clinical inquiry, teacher, professional development and leadership. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients in regard to their growth and development process. Actively supports the Hospital and department's quality goals and service excellence principles.
Min Qualifications:
1+ years nursing (RN) experience required. This position is not open to new graduates - please apply through the residency program when available.
Previous PICU/ICU experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher preferred; Associates degree in nursing with equivalent experience in lieu of BSN accepted with expectations to complete BSN.
Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (BLSC).
Ability to effectively communicate with patients/families, physicians and hospital staff.
Special certifications may be required by the department.
PICU Unit Description
The nurses in this 60-bed unit provide care for critically ill infants and children who require close monitoring and life support systems. Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides top-quality care using the most recent advancements in equipment and techniques with specialized attention to critical care and other specialty needs. PICU nurses participate in an inter-professional approach to the quality treatment of patients and their families with medically complex diseases, organ transplantation, multiple traumas, various respiratory illnesses, and many other pediatric critical conditions.
The latest interventions and treatments are available in the PICU, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), specialty ventilation techniques, and transplant services. The PICU provides family-centered care through bringing family members into care plan meetings and daily rounds which are led by PICU nurses. Additionally, PICU nurses care for patients in the robust Pulmonary Habilitation Program which supports families as they train to care for their child who will be discharged home on a ventilator.
Essential Job Duties

$37.00-$61.05 Hourly
