The regional healthcare system in Great Falls, MT is seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join its inpatient services. You will deliver specialized nursing care on an advanced medical/surgical and stepdown unit, with strong nurse-to-patient ratios and collaborative teamwork.

Ideal candidates bring ADN or higher, MT RN license, BLS/ACLS/PALS, and recent PCU/ICU experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; ADN required.
  • Active Montana RN license or immediate compact/endorsement eligibility.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required (or within 6 months of hire).
  • Recent post-graduate practice in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit with ICU/PCU experience.
  • Proficiency in cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care on an advanced medical/surgical and stepdown unit.
  • Care for a diverse patient population including post-PCI, pacemaker, CHF, COPD, DKA, sepsis.
  • Monitor for deterioration and intervene promptly to stabilize patients.
  • Operate arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, NG tubes, IV pumps, ventilatory support.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from admission through discharge planning.
  • Act as clinical lead on the floor and precept new staff and ancillary teams.

Overview

A prominent regional healthcare system is seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join its inpatient services division. This role offers a supportive clinical environment with strong nurse-to-patient ratios, administrative support, and a collaborative, compassionate team culture, based in a scenic Montana community known for its quality of life and outdoor recreation.

What you'll do
  • Provide specialized, direct nursing care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients on an advanced medical/surgical and stepdown unit.
  • Manage a broad and diverse patient population, including pre/post-PCI care, pacemaker placements, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, sepsis, and a wide scope of complex surgical cases.
  • Utilize skilled assessment and intervention tools to closely monitor for, recognize, and stabilize potentially deteriorating clinical conditions.
  • Operate and manage advanced medical equipment, including arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, multiple titration IV pumps, and short-term ventilatory support.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams from admission through comprehensive discharge planning.
  • Act as a clinical leader on the floor, assisting with precepting new staff and providing directional support to LPNs, CNAs, and ancillary teams.
Required qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Associate Degree in Nursing required.
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Montana (or immediate compact/endorsement eligibility).
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required (or must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
  • Proven post-graduate clinical practice in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit combined with recent Critical Care (ICU) or Progressive Care (PCU/Stepdown) nursing experience.
  • Proficiency in basic cardiac telemetry, EKG interpretation, advanced nursing principles, and standard office/computer software.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screenings, including a criminal background check, drug screening, and health/immunization verification.
Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • EPNC and TNCC certifications highly preferred.
  • Dedicated pediatric nursing experience highly desired.
