Job summary

Software Placement Group is seeking a Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse for a full-time, on-site role in Great Falls, Montana. You will provide specialized nursing care on a stepdown unit with strong nurse-to-patient ratios and solid administrative backing.

Experience in ICU/PCU, telemetry, and complex post-operative care is essential. BLS/ACLS/PALS required or obtained within 6 months. Montana RN licensure or compact eligibility is needed.

Qualifications

  • Must hold active Montana RN license (or immediate endorsement).
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required or must be obtained within 6 months.
  • Post-graduate clinical practice on an advanced Medical/Surgical unit with ICU/PCU experience.
  • Proficiency in cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation; familiarity with clinical nursing principles.
  • Proficient with standard office/computer software and hospital information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized, direct nursing care to stable or predictably unstable patients on a stepdown unit.
  • Manage diverse patient population including pre/post-PCI care and various surgical cases.
  • Monitor for deterioration and implement timely interventions.
  • Operate arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, NG tubes, bladder irrigation, IV pumps, and short-term ventilation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from admission to discharge planning.
  • Precept and support staff including LPNs and CNAs on the floor.

Overview

A prominent regional healthcare system is seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse to join a specialized clinical team within its inpatient services division. This role offers a supportive clinical environment with strong nurse-to-patient ratios, robust administrative backing, and a culture of teamwork and compassion, located in a scenic Montana community known for its quality of life and outdoor recreation.

What you'll do
  • Provide specialized, direct nursing care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients on an advanced medical/surgical and stepdown unit.
  • Manage a broad and diverse patient population, including pre/post-PCI care, pacemaker placements, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, sepsis, and a wide scope of complex surgical cases.
  • Utilize skilled assessment and intervention tools to closely monitor for, recognize, and stabilize potentially deteriorating clinical conditions.
  • Operate and manage advanced medical equipment, including arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, multiple titration IV pumps, and short-term ventilatory support.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams from admission through comprehensive discharge planning.
  • Act as a clinical leader on the floor, assisting with precepting new staff and providing directional support to LPNs, CNAs, and ancillary teams.
Required qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Associate Degree in Nursing required.
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Montana (or immediate compact/endorsement eligibility).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required, or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Proven post-graduate clinical practice in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit combined with recent Critical Care (ICU) or Progressive Care (PCU/Stepdown) nursing experience.
  • Proficiency in basic cardiac telemetry, EKG interpretation, advanced nursing principles, and standard office/computer software.
Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • EPNC and TNCC certifications highly preferred.
  • Dedicated pediatric nursing experience highly desired.
