Job summary

ChristianaCare is seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse II to join our Perianesthesia Services team at Christiana Hospital in Newark. The role covers pre-operative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery in a fast-paced Level I trauma environment.

Ideal candidates hold a BSN or are enrolled within three years, with current RN licensure and BLS. ACLS/PALS within 6 months and 2+ years in perianesthesia/critical care are required. 12-hour shifts with rotating days and weekends apply.

Qualifications

• BSN degree required or commitment to obtain within 3 years of hire.
• Current RN licensure.
• BLS required; ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire.
• At least 2 years of Perianesthesia Nursing, Critical Care, or HVIS experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-anesthesia nursing care for diverse patient populations.
• Assess and interpret clinical information to ensure safe progression through the surgical continuum.
• Assist anesthesia providers with nerve block procedures and moderate sedation.
• Prepare and recover patients receiving general, MAC, moderate sedation, and local anesthesia.
• Monitor and manage complex patient needs including hemodynamic monitoring and pain management therapies.
• Collaborate with surgeons and perianesthesia team to ensure exceptional care and efficiency.
• Delegate tasks to nursing support staff based on competency.

Position Overview

Christiana Hospital is seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse II to join our Perianesthesia Services team. This role supports both pre-operative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery in a fast-paced, evolving Level I trauma environment.

The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking skills and expertise in caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical and procedural interventions. This position requires proficiency in advanced patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, pain management, cardiac monitoring, airway management, and vascular access device management.

Schedule Requirements

• Full-Time/Flex, /72 hours bi-weekly schedule
• Rotating shifts - day/evening/overnight
• Predominantly 12-hour shifts
• Weekend, holiday, and on-call commitment in accordance with departmental guidelines

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-anesthesia nursing care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and special-needs patient populations.
• Assess, interpret, and utilize clinical information to identify patient needs and ensure safe progression through the surgical continuum.
• Assist anesthesia providers with nerve block procedures and moderate sedation administration.
• Prepare and recover patients receiving general, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), moderate sedation, and local anesthesia.
• Monitor and manage complex patient needs, including: Hemodynamic monitoring Cardiac rhythm interpretation Airway management Pain management therapies (PCA, epidurals, and other modalities) Vascular access devices
• Identify actual and potential patient risks and implement appropriate interventions.
• Safely administer IV and oral medications while evaluating patient response and outcomes.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the perianesthesia team to ensure exceptional patient care and operational efficiency.
• Delegate responsibilities appropriately to nursing support staff, technicians, and unit clerks based on competency and scope of practice.

Qualifications

BSN requires; or commitment to obtaining within three years of the date of hire.

Current RN licensure

BLS required. ACLS and PALS are required within 6 months of hire. Required to have at least 2 years of experience in one of the following areas: Perianesthesia Nursing, Critical Care, or HVIS to qualify.

Hourly Pay Range

$42.11 - $67.37

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
