Job summary

Highpoint Health Winchester with Ascension Saint Thomas is seeking a dedicated Surgery RN to join our OR team. This full-time role provides direct patient care using the nursing process and requires a TN RN license and an associate degree.

You’ll collaborate across disciplines, administer medications, document care, and educate patients and families while supporting a compassionate, community-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Active TN RN license or a compact state RN with TN paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
• Associate degree required; BSN preferred.
• AHA BLS within 30 days of hire; AHA ACLS within 6 months; AHA PALS within 6 months.
• Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• One-year nursing experience preferred.

How you'll contribute

A Surgery RN who excels in this role:

• Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

• Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire, AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire, AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
• Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Experience: One-year previous experience preferred.
• Licenses: Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with the State of Tennessee or a licensed Registered Nurse from a Compact State with the proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
• Education: Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.
