Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Surgical Oncology unit at RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick. The role is part-time, night shift, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., 36 hours weekly, with weekend/holiday rotations.

You will assess patients, administer care, document in EPIC, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective treatment plans. Ideal candidates hold a NJ RN license, a nursing degree, and BLS; ACLS/NB Certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey RN license in good standing.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing strongly preferred or completed within 5 years.
• National Board Certification and ACLS preferred or obtained within 6 months.
• 2-3 years of acute care RN experience strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with EPIC EMR systems required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and recognize clinical changes.
• Provide medications, treatments, and hands-on nursing care.
• Collaborate with physicians and providers for coordinated care decisions.
• Educate patients and families to ensure informed, prepared transitions.
• Document accurately in the EMR to promote safety and continuity.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and uphold teamwork.

Surgical Oncology is an 32 bed Oncology Unit . All 32 beds are private rooms. In this unit, you will see a variety of surgical & intermediate care cases.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
• Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS Certification with at least 1 year of acute care RN experience required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is strongly preferred or must be completed within 5 years upon hire. National Board Certification and ACLS Certification is preferred or must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Prior 2-3 years of RN experience within acute care is highly preferred and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers a Part-Time NightShift schedule from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday – Friday with weekend and holiday rotations, 36 hours per week, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
