Job summary

Highpoint Health Winchester with Ascension Saint Thomas is seeking a Nursery RN for PRN night shifts. You will deliver nursing care for mothers and newborns, document care, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.

The role emphasizes compassion, critical thinking, and independent judgment in a high‑quality obstetric setting. Requirements include TN RN licensure, an associate degree in nursing, and 1+ year experience in L&D, postpartum, or newborn nursery.

Qualifications

• TN RN license required; compact state accepted.
• Associate's degree in nursing required; BSN preferred.
• 1+ year of L&D, postpartum, and newborn nursery experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs plan of care interventions including medication administration and clinical treatments.
• Documents patient care provided and monitors patient condition with the care team.
• Assists with activities of daily living; coordinates patient transfer, discharge, and referrals.
• Provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, and circumstances.
• Advocates for the patient’s physical and emotional well-being.

How you'll contribute

A Nursery RN who excels in this role:

• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

• Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), within 30 days of hire, AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire or placement in position, NRP, within 3 months of hire STABLE, AWHONN Fetal Monitoring, within 1 year in position preferred.
• Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Experience: One or more years of recent L&D, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery experience preferred.
• Licenses: Must have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license.
• Education: Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.

Highpoint Health - Winchester with Ascension Saint Thomas is a 157-bed facility that includes 131 licensed acute care beds and 26 skilled nursing home beds. Fully accredited by The Joint Commission, the hospital offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services supported by a qualified and diverse medical staff. Key services include a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a 12-bed Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, and a 12-bed Acute Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation Unit. The facility also features a Skilled Nursing Unit, Sleep Lab, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, five Operating Rooms, and two Endoscopy Suites.
