Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a per diem Night Shift PD RN for the Medical-Surgical Unit-IV at the New Brunswick location. The role focuses on high-quality patient care within a 31-bed Oncology-ward setting, emphasizing safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

The RN will conduct assessments, administer treatments, educate patients and families, and document in EPIC while collaborating with physicians and the care team to ensure smooth transitions.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• Current BLS Certification required.
• 1 year of acute care RN experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred or completed within 5 years of hire.
• National Board Certification and ACLS preferred or obtained within 6 months of employment.
• EMR experience with EPIC preferred.

As a Registered Nurse within the Medical Surgical IV (Medical Oncology) at RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick, you will help advance patient care and strengthen the experience of individuals and families across our organization. Medical Surgical IV is an 31 bed Oncology Unit for non-oncological cases. All 31 beds are private rooms. In this unit, you will see a variety of med-surg and intermediate care cases.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
• Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS Certification with at least 1 year of acute care RN experience required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is strongly preferred or must be completed within 5 years upon hire. National Board Certification and ACLS Certification is preferred or must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Prior 2-3 years of RN experience within acute care is highly preferred and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers a Per Diem NightShift schedule from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday – Friday with weekend and holiday rotations, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
