Summary

The Program Manager Surgical Services partners with senior leadership, physicians, managers, and staff to plan, organize, direct, execute and/or facilitate programs related to pediatric patients requiring surgery. Coordinates with patients, their families and providers to facilitate care. Promotes collaboration among the health care team to provide developmentally appropriate care, referrals, and discharge planning for patients. Develops and provides educational programs to meet the needs of the clinical staff. Participates in research and/or quality improvement initiatives. Serves as an expert and a resource to staff, physicians, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the physician leads to develop the logistics of the program from initial patient referral/intake to the transition to adult specialists, e.g. develop clinical pathways and standard operating procedures, work with IT/IS to facilitate the development of pathways and processes for patient care, consultant communication, and data gathering.
  • Coordinate patient intake, clinic visits, coordination of providers with referring doctors to facilitate patient intake.
  • Gather clinical data and facilitate any diagnostic studies for review for providers.
  • Follow up with patients to ensure logistics of access to clinic visits and providers. Work closely with APP and physician leads to field clinic calls from patients/families.
  • Communicate effectively with relevant providers and consultants. Engage with local patient/parent advocacy groups. Provide support to families to ensure access to care.
  • In conjunction with providers, ensure patient database/registry is established and maintained.
  • Collaborate with departmental/divisional research personnel to ensure adequate and timely data gathering as part of IRB-approved research efforts.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team to facilitate the development, implementation and progressive growth of the department.
  • Have deep understanding of subject matter in area(s) of expertise.
  • Collaborate with leaders to develop projects; participate in initiatives to share and learn with a variety of audiences.
  • Aggregate and analyze findings to identify opportunities to improve processes or delivery of services; make recommendations as appropriate.
  • May interact with medical leaders, administration, management, caregivers, ancillary staff, coworkers, vendors and agencies outside of Children's Medical Center; participates in hospital committees as assigned.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Provide support, oversight and implementation of processes to promote the program.
How You’ll Be Successful
WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 5 years Job-related experience Required

EDUCATION

Four-year Bachelor's degree in Nursing Required
Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

License to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas Required
