Minimum of one year inpatient experience or women’s health (RN/LPN) is required for LDRP.

The LDRP unit at CMH provides antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, intraoperative, postoperative, and newborn care to our communities expecting families. We deliver an average of 20-25 babies each month. Our facility features 4 LDRP rooms, 2 triage/antepartum rooms, and 1 operating room. We have a friendly staff of physicians and nurses committed to providing safe, state-of-the-art medical care. We follow AWHONN staffing guidelines and foster a unit environment that promotes positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family-centered care. CMH has been recognized as a “Best Hospital for Maternity” and “Maternity Care Access Hospital” by US News & World Report.

The Clinical Nurse I role involves integrating technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs. Responsibilities include assisting with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and providing comfort. This role also involves providing direction, education, and beginning to develop leadership skills, delivering and documenting age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans, and safely administering medications, identifying interactions and incompatibilities.

The Clinical Nurse II role demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. It includes recognizing patient status changes, intervening appropriately, mobilizing resources, providing leadership, and delivering accurate, age-specific care while ensuring medication safety.

The Clinical Nurse III role shows advanced clinical knowledge, assists with illness prevention, anticipates patient changes, and serves as a role model. It involves delivering comprehensive, age-specific care, ensuring medication safety, and providing leadership within the unit.

**Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:**
- Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state.

**Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:**
- Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

**Experience REQUIRED:**
- Clin I: N/A
- Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
- Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience.

**Experience PREFERRED:**
- Clin I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or relevant area.
- Clin II, Clin III: Academic healthcare experience; similar patient population experience in an acute setting or relevant area.

**Education/training REQUIRED:**
- All levels: Diploma or Associate’s Degree from an approved nursing program recognized by the state’s Board of Nursing.
- Nurses without a BSN are required to enroll in an RN to BSN program within two years and complete it within five years unless grandfathered.

**Education/training PREFERRED:**
- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher; Clin III: Certification in specialty area.

**Independent actions:**
- Follow physician/licensed provider orders, practice within Virginia nursing regulations, guided by ANA Code of Ethics and national standards, and adhere to VCUHS policies.

**Supervisory responsibilities:**
- Organize work, delegate, and supervise others (RN, LPN, Care Partners, etc.).

**Additional requirements:**
- Work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, with schedules set by the Nurse/Practice Manager. Schedules may be adjusted as needed.

**Age-specific groups served:**
- As appropriate based on unit assignment.

**Physical requirements:**
- Lifting 20-50 lbs., exposure to hazardous substances, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching, and other physical activities.
- Mental/Sensory: strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking, reading, and logical thinking.
- Emotional: ability to handle a fast-paced, noisy environment and multiple priorities.
