The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia, doing business as UVA Health, invites applications for a Labor and Delivery RN. Join a nationally recognized academic medical center delivering high-quality, patient-centered obstetric care.

You will collaborate with obstetricians, midwives and neonatologists in a fast-paced environment, perform maternal/fetal assessments, educate families, and mentor junior nurses while contributing to evidence-based practice and professional development.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program is required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required within 5 years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, patient-centered care during labor, delivery, and postpartum.
• Perform continuous maternal and fetal assessments, recognizing and responding to changes in clinical status.
• Collaborate with providers and care teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Support patients and families through education, emotional support, and advocacy during the childbirth experience.
• Participate in high-acuity cases, including emergent deliveries and complex obstetric scenarios.

In this role, you will join a highly collaborative Women's Services team within a nationally recognized academic medical center. You will care for a diverse patient population, applying evidence-based practice and advanced clinical skills in a supportive, innovation-driven environment.

The Role

As a Labor and Delivery RN, you will practice in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment where adaptability, clinical judgment, and teamwork are essential. You will partner closely with obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional outcomes for mothers and newborns.

• Perform continuous maternal and fetal assessments, recognizing and responding to changes in clinical status
• Collaborate with providers and care teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Support patients and families through education, emotional support, and advocacy during the childbirth experience
• Participate in high-acuity cases, including emergent deliveries and complex obstetric scenarios
• Utilize advanced clinical technology and evidence-based protocols to ensure optimal outcomes
• Precept and mentor newer nurses while contributing to a strong team culture grounded in professionalism and shared accountability

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
• Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
• Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $39.90 - $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
