Job summary

HealthBar is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide dedicated school nursing for a student with complex medical needs in Kalamazoo, MI. The role offers a consistent Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, about 32.5 hours per week with summers off and no nights or weekends.

You will deliver hands-on care, monitor health, and help the student participate safely in school day activities. You will work closely with HealthBar's clinical leadership and the school team to execute care plans,

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted Michigan RN license.
  • Experience providing complex clinical care.
  • Experience with tracheostomy care, suctioning, ventilator support, and/or other advanced nursing skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with the care team.
  • Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Ability to successfully complete background checks and fingerprinting.

Kalamazoo, MI | Starting at $46,500 | Benefits Eligible | Summers Off

You'll also have the support of HealthBar's clinical team while working closely with school staff and the student's family.

Schedule

Compensation & Benefits
  • $46,500–$53,00 annually, equivalent to $40–$46/hour

What Your Days Look Like

You'll provide skilled nursing care and support throughout the student's school day, helping them safely participate in their education and school community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing tracheostomy care and frequent suctioning
  • Monitoring and supporting ventilator use
  • Providing wheelchair and mobility support
  • Providing assistance as needed throughout the school day
  • Managing and monitoring a suprapubic catheter
  • Monitoring the student's condition and responding appropriately to changes in their health status
  • Following the student's established care plan and physician-directed orders
  • Supporting the student with school-related activities and requirements
  • Providing nursing support during school transportation and busing
  • Accompanying the student on field trips and other school activities when required
  • Communicating with school staff, family, and the HealthBar clinical team
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Advocating for the student's health, safety, and ability to participate in the school environment
Program Details

HealthBar partners with schools to provide individualized nursing services that support student health, safety, and educational success.

You'll work as part of the school community while maintaining access to HealthBar's clinical leadership and resources. This collaborative approach allows you to focus on providing high-quality nursing care while building trust with the student, family, teachers, administrators, and other members of the care team.

  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks and fingerprinting
