Job summary

Highpoint Health Winchester with Ascension Saint Thomas is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department on a PRN basis. The role offers a 3x12 schedule within a 6‑week period, including one weekend, and a mission to provide exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment.

You will deliver direct nursing care, document care, advocate for patients, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support transitions and education for patients and families.

Qualifications

• Requires Tennessee RN license or compact state license.
• Certifications: BLS within 30 days, ACLS within 6 months, PALS within 6 months.
• Associate's degree required; BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to care team.

How you’ll contribute

• Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

• Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
• Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Licenses: Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with the State of Tennessee or a licensed Registered Nurse from a Compact State with the proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
• Education: Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.
