Job summary

Ardent Health Services is seeking a variable shift, PRN Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) for our Athens, Texas location. You will provide care across a broad patient population from newborns to geriatrics in a fast-paced ED.

Candidates must hold a Texas RN license and current BLS; ACLS/ENPC or PALS and NIHSS certification are required before orientation ends. Prior ER or acute care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Texas RN license required; nursing degree from an accredited program.
• BLS required within 14 days; ACLS or ENPC/PALS required before end of orientation.
• NIHSS certification required before end of orientation.
• Preferred: ER experience (1 year) and acute care experience (2 years); CEN and TNCC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers care to patients from newborn to geriatric using a multidisciplinary approach to ensure appropriate nursing care.
• Prioritizes patient care needs based on assessment and uses the nursing process to implement a plan of care.
• Delivers care consistent with physician orders and department policy.

Get to Know Your Team:

• UT Health Athens is a 127-bed facility, including a 24-hour ED, designated as a Level IV trauma center and acute stroke ready facility; advanced diagnostic technology; 10-bed ICU; maternity unit radiation therapy center; and a stand‑alone ED in Gun Barrel City.

Responsibilities

• Administers care to a patient population ranging from newborn to geriatric and utilizes a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to ensure that each patient receives nursing care appropriate to his/her illness or injury.
• Prioritizes patient care need based on the patient assessment and uses the nursing process to implement a plan of care appropriate to each patient’s needs.
• Delivers care consistent with physician’s orders and treatment protocols and in accordance with hospital and departmental policy.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Degree in nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current Texas RN license.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) required within 14 days of hire and before providing direct patient care.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACL S) required before end of orientation.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required before end of orientation.
• NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certification required before end of orientation.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• One year of emergency nursing experience
• Two years of acute care nursing experience
• CEN
• Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)
