RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the ED Float Pool, based in West Orange, NJ. This full-time night shift role spans 36 hours weekly, with a pay range of $48.29–$65.06 per hour. The RN will support multiple sites across the system, float regionally, and contribute to safe, high-quality patient care.

The ideal candidate holds an active NJ RN license with BLS, ACLS, and PALS, and has 3+ years ED experience. BSN preferred and EMR proficiency (EPIC) is expected.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey RN license in good standing with BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
• 3+ years of Emergency Department experience in a hospital setting.
• BSN strongly preferred or to be completed within 5 years of hire.
• Familiarity with EPIC or similar EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings in EMR.
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with clinical judgment.
• Collaborate with physicians and advanced providers to coordinate care.
• Educate patients and families to support understanding and engagement.

In this role, RNs have the opportunity to gain exposure to a broad scope of patient care within their specialty area while working assignments at each of the sites throughout our system. The RN supports the team and the patients at each site for an average of three months per assignment. There are opportunities available to float regionally (to the northern or the southern region sites) or to float throughout the entire RWJBH system. You will help advance patient care and strengthen the experience of individuals and families across our organization. As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognizing subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands-on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS Certification with at least 3 years of Emergency Department experience in a hospital setting. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is strongly preferred or must be completed within 5 years upon hire. Comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers a full-time, Night Shift schedule from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. with weekend and holiday rotations, 36 hours per week, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
