Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department (ED) - Anderson Hospital

Position Overview

The ED RN provides, coordinates, plans, and evaluates nursing care, supervising licensed and unlicensed staff within established standards and policies. The role requires caring for patients in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment as part of a collaborative team focused on optimal patient outcomes. The ED RN models safety and cultural behaviors to eliminate preventable harm and ensure a safe, high-quality care experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients initially and continuously, analyze data, create and implement care plans, and evaluate treatment effectiveness.
  • Administer medications safely according to policies and standards.
  • Coordinate patient care across hospital departments.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety.
  • Manage the physical and emotional demands of emergency nursing.
  • Apply current and innovative emergency nursing practices.
  • Provide care across the lifespan for various conditions, including trauma, medical illnesses, pediatric and geriatric care, women’s health, mental health, and life-saving interventions.
  • Collaborate with external agencies such as law enforcement, EMS, and pharmacies.
  • Deliver episodic, primary, short-term care in diverse settings.
Qualifications
  • Current RN license in the applicable state or covered by a compact license.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS, PALS, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program preferred (must obtain within specified timeframes).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year RN experience required; recent ED or critical care experience preferred.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-stress situations and adapt quickly.
  • Knowledge of emergency equipment and procedures.
Work Environment

High-stress periods, exposure to physical and verbal challenges, and the need for physical restraints may occur. Protective measures and infection control policies are essential.

Physical and Additional Requirements

Includes lifting, bending, standing, and operating emergency equipment, with specific physical demands outlined.

Patient Population
