Job summary

Texas Children's Emergency Center in Houston seeks an ED Staff Nurse to deliver high-quality pediatric nursing care in a fast-paced setting. You will assess, educate, implement and evaluate care while coordinating with the care team and family.

The role requires a nursing degree, Texas licensure, and BLS; 1 year of professional nursing experience is preferred, with pediatric or critical care exposure favored. Respiratory fit testing may be required for safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • BSN or ADN with enrollment in BSN program or signed agreement
  • Texas Board of Nursing licensure required
  • Current BLS from American Heart Association required
  • 1 year of professional nursing experience
  • Pediatric, Emergency, or Critical Care experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient/family in a systematic manner across bio-physical, psychosocial, developmental and cultural needs
  • Collect and analyze data from medical records to coordinate care
  • Identify patient education, discharge planning and pain management needs
  • Update plan of care based on changes in condition and communicate with the care team
  • Discuss care plan with family and document in medical record
  • Evaluate patient response to care and progress toward outcomes
  • Develop and document individualized teaching plans for patients/families
  • Advocate for patients and collaborate with health care team
  • Administer and document medications and treatments promptly
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and apply new skills to improve performance

Job description

We are searching for an Emergency Department Staff Nurse - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position you'll provide quality nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate care in a manner that incorporates family-centered principles and cost-effective care. We need someone who can collect and analyze data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care.

Texas Children's Emergency Center, located in the Texas Medical Center at 6621 Fannin St., provides a complete range of services to the greater Houston community, treating children with both medical and surgical emergencies.

Texas Children's Emergency Center, the largest pediatric emergency center in South Central Texas, has 53 beds, including shock trauma resuscitation beds, dedicated sexual assault examination room, and specialized isolation room. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing Or AssociatesDegreein nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in aBSN program and signed agreement
  • OrTechnical diplomain nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in aBSN program and signed agreement
  • OrMust be currently enrolled in a nursing bridge programworking toward an MSN.
  • Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas is required
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association is required
  • (1) year of professional nursing experience
  • 1 year of Pediatric, Emergency, or Critical Care experience highly preferred

Responsibilities:
  • Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including bio-physical, psychosocial, developmental (age-appropriate), cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner
  • Collects and analyzes data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care
  • Identifies patient's needs pertaining to patient teaching, discharge planning, growth and development, nutritional screening, functional status, and pain management
  • Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes in the patient's condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record
  • Discusses the patient's plan of care with family and/or significant individuals and documents in the medical record as appropriate
  • Evaluates and documents patient's response to the care provided and recognizes the patient's progress toward meeting the desired outcomes and discusses with the patient/family
  • Formulates, implements, and documents individualized teaching plan based on patient/family assessment
  • Serves as a patient/family advocate while caring for patients and collaborating with other health care team members
  • Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performances
