The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a full-time RN to join our team. The role involves providing health screening and services, from basic first aid to managing more serious medical conditions, in a correctional setting. Our team collaborates closely to meet the medical needs of those in our care. We believe every employee plays a critical role in public safety and community service. Throughout 2022, our Institutions Division served over 7,000 adults in custody. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be willing to work in a team environment. We are a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
$36.87 - $49.39 Hourly
Employees in this classification are eligible for a 2.5% incentive pay after successful completion of county trial service, with an additional 3% starting from the fourth year of service, totaling 5.5%.
This position is represented by the Marion County Law Enforcement Association (MCLEA). In addition to the salary, RN’s with the Sheriff’s Office receive a comprehensive benefits package including retirement contributions, medical and dental insurance (Marion County pays 95%), PERS & OPSRP retirement (county pays 6%), paid leave, holidays, life insurance, disability plans, voluntary insurance options, deferred compensation, and an Employee Assistance Program.
Serve as a professional nurse in the county corrections facility, performing nursing duties with considerable independence. Responsibilities include physical examinations, treatment, medication dispensing under physician supervision, accurate charting, and assessing the physical, mental, and emotional status of inmates. The nurse will also be responsible for documenting signs and symptoms, assessments, actions, education, outcomes, and unusual occurrences thoroughly and accurately.
Proficiency in nursing procedures such as CPR, first aid, vital signs, oxygen administration, venipuncture, wound care, injections, medication setup, specimen collection, splinting, and other technical skills is required. The nurse must be capable of assessing and responding to medical emergencies, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to security protocols.
The nurse will ensure proper medication management, maintain pharmacy records, conduct health screenings, and support infection control and safety standards. They will also assist in minor surgeries, interpret lab results, and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians.
The nurse must follow security procedures, respond to emergencies, and support the safe operation of the facility. They are expected to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and uphold ethical standards in all duties.
Thorough knowledge of nursing practices, legal liability, equipment, and supplies; ability to work independently, respond to emergencies, maintain records, and communicate effectively.
Ability to see, hear, speak clearly, lift up to 25 lbs., push up to 50 lbs., work in various environmental conditions, and perform repetitive tasks with dexterity.
