Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN), 12 Hour PM, Post Anesthesia Care Unit Department

UC Health is hiring a Part-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the PACU department at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

This 30 bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit specializes in Phase 1 recovery for general anesthesia cases throughout the hospital. As the region's only Level 1 academic trauma center, we specialize in the treatment of complex neuro, ENT and trauma cases. Other surgeries and procedures are diverse and include Cath Lab/EP, IR and ICU level of care patients. Phase 1 recovery focuses on airway maintenance, breathing, hemodynamic stability and pain control.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.

  • Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
  • Clinical reasoning coupled with nursing skills acquired through experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines. Collects basic level data and follows protocols with all populations.
  • Works on another's behalf and represents the concerns of the patient/family and nursing staff. Serves as a moral agent in identifying and helping to resolve ethical and clinical concerns.
  • Nursing activities that create a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • Works with others (e.g. patients, care providers) to encourage each person's contribution toward achieving optimal patient goals.
  • The sensitivity to recognize, appreciate and incorporate differences into provision of care.
  • Facilitates learning for patients/families, nursing staff and community including formal and informal learning.
  • The ongoing process of questioning and evaluating practice and providing informed practice.
