Job Description

Position: Registered Nurse (RN), 12 Hour PM, Post Anesthesia Care Unit Department

UC Health is hiring a Part-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the PACU department at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. This 30-bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit specializes in Phase 1 recovery for general anesthesia cases throughout the hospital. As the region's only Level 1 academic trauma center, we handle complex neuro, ENT, and trauma cases, along with diverse surgeries including Cath Lab/EP, IR, and ICU-level care patients. Phase 1 recovery focuses on airway management, breathing, hemodynamic stability, and pain control.

Responsibilities

The RN must hold a current state license to practice nursing, applying specialized knowledge and skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, which is culturally sensitive and age-specific.

  • Communicate effectively with patients and families, involve family in care, recognize physical and behavioral health needs, and respond appropriately.
  • Use clinical reasoning and evidence-based guidelines to collect data, follow protocols, and make decisions.
  • Advocate for patients and maintain confidentiality, uphold ethical standards, and create a compassionate environment.
  • Promote patient independence through education, establish safety, and recognize changing patient conditions.
  • Collaborate with team members, participate in discussions, and maintain cooperative relationships.
  • Manage environmental and systemic resources effectively, respecting cultural and individual differences.
  • Facilitate learning for patients, families, and staff, and engage in ongoing practice evaluation and improvement.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school
  • Minimum Associate Degree; BSc in Nursing preferred
  • Current Ohio RN License
  • BLS/ACLS certifications
  • At least 2 years of ICU, PACU, or ED experience required
