Job description

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Clinical Coordinator, under the direction of the Nurse Manager and/or Director, is responsible for supervising, providing, and promoting quality patient care. This role utilizes knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan, appropriate to the age of the patients served, and is family-centered, based on the philosophy of Harbour View Medical Center and the Division of Patient Care Services.

Using the nursing process, the Clinical Coordinator assesses, plans, provides, and evaluates professional nursing care based on evidence-based practice or research. They supervise and delegate tasks to team members, identify and address patient and family nursing care and educational needs, and are accountable for daily team performance through supervision, multidisciplinary collaboration, and facilitation of pathway outcomes. The role includes assisting the manager in the efficient operation of the unit, participating as a team member, seeking professional development opportunities, and practicing in accordance with Virginia Department of Health Professions and Virginia Board of Nursing regulations.

Employment Qualifications
  1. Currently licensed to practice nursing in Virginia or eligible via the Nursing Compact.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of R.N. clinical experience in an acute care setting.
  3. American Heart Association CPR certified or able to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
  4. Specialty area certification is strongly preferred.
  5. Additional certifications such as ACLS, NRP, etc., may be required.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Ensure the nursing process is utilized and documented per JCAHO and other regulatory standards for each patient, and that performance improvement standards are met.
  2. Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained daily, with planning for monthly schedules.
  3. Promote the public image of Harbour View Medical Center and develop rapport with patients, families, and physicians. Communicate treatment plans effectively, considering patient age.
  4. Use resources efficiently to meet departmental objectives and ensure appropriate staffing and skill mix.
  5. Develop leadership within the Division of Patient Care Services and the broader community.
  6. Foster professional relationships, accountability, collaboration, and knowledge sharing to positively impact patient care.
  7. Provide age-appropriate education and development opportunities for clinical personnel.
