Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an experienced RN for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit in New Brunswick. The role provides specialized care for infants to young adults, including chemotherapy, transfusions, and end-of-life support, with a focus on family-centered care.

Night shift, 36 hours per week, NJ licensure required with BLS, ACLS, PALS, and APHON chemotherapy certifications. An associate degree is required, bachelor’s preferred, with EPIC EMR experience highly valued.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey RN license in good standing.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and APHON Chemotherapy certifications.
• Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience.
• Associate degree in nursing required; bachelor’s preferred.
• Experience with EPIC EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, intervening early.
• Administer safe, evidence-based medications and treatments.
• Coordinate with physicians and advanced providers for timely care decisions.
• Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families.
• Ensure accurate documentation in the EMR to support continuity of care.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and promote teamwork.
• Support ongoing professional growth through education and clinical ladder opportunities.

The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit is an 11-bed unit that provides specialized care to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of hematological and oncologic disorders. Our multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive family-centered care to these patients throughout their treatment journey including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood product transfusions, bone marrow transplantation, symptom management, and end-of-life care. As a center actively involved in clinical research, we offer patients access to innovative clinical trials while providing evidence-based, compassionate care that promotes the best possible outcomes.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

Requirements

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification, and APHON Chemotherapy Certification are required. 1-year previous Pediatric experience is required.

Previous Pediatric Oncology experience preferred.

An Associate’s degree in Nursing is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is strongly preferred, as is prior patient care experience and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position is Night Shift, 36 hours per week, 7pm-7:30am.
