Job Description

General Summary

This role is the minimum for nurses with over 12 months of experience at UMMC. The nurse will demonstrate competence in required skills, participate in unit governance, and adhere to the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. Responsibilities include providing and coordinating patient care within a clinical specialty, participating as a team member, and contributing to strategies that improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness. The nurse is accountable to patients and families for care outcomes, to peers for group practice advancement, and to the nurse manager for overall performance.

Qualifications

• Current Maryland RN licensure or eligibility through Compact agreements.
• Successful passing of probation and current mandatory training.
• Maintain 10 contact hours of education annually.
• Membership in a professional organization.
• Recent relevant clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Leadership ability, such as charge nurse or preceptor roles.
• Competence in computer systems for patient information management.
• Knowledge of growth and development principles relevant to the patient population.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Patient Safety
