Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.

All RN Clinical Nurses are required to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards set forth by the American Nurses Association. As members of the patient services team, they uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating through effective partnerships to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care considering population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease), adapting service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
  • Partners with patients and significant others using appropriate methods (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching), keeping patients and their families updated, and making their goals central to the care plan.
  • Practices according to current clinical standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality care, promoting respectful, inclusive interdisciplinary communication and timely documentation.
  • Demonstrates teamwork by practicing responsibly and fostering recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
  • Supports performance improvement initiatives, research, and shared governance at all system levels.
Professional Development and Initiative
  • Completes initial and ongoing competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  • Serves as a preceptor or mentor to ensure a qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and fostering a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
  • Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement activities, including value analysis for patient care products.
  • Upholds organizational policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards (e.g., TJC Patient Safety Goals, Wellstar safety absolutes).
  • Participates in data collection, formulates clinical questions, consults experts, and uses evidence to improve practice.
Resources and Support
  • Plans for patient care across the continuum, supporting protocols and procedures to improve outcomes (e.g., reduce readmissions, adverse events).
  • Supports efficient use of resources.

Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies, standards, and codes of conduct.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Nursing Degree (Preferred)

Minimum License and Certification Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor certification preferred

Additional License/Certification Requirements

All certifications are required upon hire unless specified otherwise.
