UMC Health System in Lubbock, Texas is seeking a Registered Nurse for the 5 West Observation Unit (5W OBS). The RN will deliver and coordinate care for a 34-bed unit focused on short-stay monitoring and rapid decision-making for admission or discharge.

The role requires a Texas RN license or compact eligibility, BLS certification, and BSN within three years of hire; Med-surg certification is preferred. Night shifts (7 PM–7 AM) are available in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
  • Valid Texas RN License or Compact license eligible is required.
  • Current BLS certification from American Heart Association is required.
  • BSN degree must be obtained within 3 years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, implement or delegate, plan, and evaluate total nursing care for a group of patients.
  • Provide and direct patient care in accordance with nursing philosophy and unit standards.
  • Coordinate care with physicians and other team members for optimal patient outcomes.

Learn more about why we are one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas.Registered Nurse (RN) Acute Care Observation Full Time Nights 7P-7A UMC Health System Lubbock, Texas 5 West Observation Unit (5W OBS) is a designated, 34-bed medical unit where adult patients in need of additional monitoring, diagnostic evaluation, and/or treatment may be monitored while a clinical decision is being made whether to admit the patient for hospitalization or discharge the patient home. 5W OBS is fast-paced with a goal length of stay 48 hours or less. Our employees possess good time management skills, excellent communication skills, ability to think critically think, and a passion for a short-stay fast-paced environment. The nurse will have an essential role in coordinating care with physicians, other team members, patients, and families. The unit is focused on continuously improving processes to improve patient care and patient flow. 5W OBS is very team orientated and delivers quality nursing care to every patient that seeks our expertise. Registered professional nurse who assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy, providing and directing patient care for a group of patients. Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care.
