The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive high-quality, safe, and individualized care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and aligned with the Wellstar Values.
All RN Clinical Nurses must be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, the Scope of Practice, and the Code of Ethics by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, they must advocate for the patient, adhere to system policies, and support service excellence goals.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes: Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care. Coordinates care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal outcomes.
- Relationship-based patient-centered care: Provides care tailored to population-specific characteristics (age, gender, disease, etc.), respecting cultural diversity.
- Patient and family partnership: Engages patients and significant others using methods like bedside reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient education, focusing on patient goals.
- Practice standards: Adheres to current clinical practice standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinates safe, quality patient care, ensuring effective interdisciplinary communication and respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
- Demonstrates teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting healthcare team recruitment and retention.
- Supports performance improvement initiatives, research, and shared governance activities.
Professional Development and Initiative
- Completes required competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
- Serves as a preceptor or mentor to promote workforce development and a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
- Promotes evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement, participating in activities like value analysis.
- Complies with organizational policies, standards, legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, including TJC Patient Safety Goals.
- Engages in data collection, clinical inquiry, and consults experts to address practice questions.
Resources and Support
- Plans patient care across the continuum proactively.
- Participates in protocol development to improve outcomes such as reducing readmissions and adverse events.
- Supports efficient resource utilization.
Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar policies and standards.
Minimum Education and Licensure
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Valid RN license in Georgia or multi-state compact; BLS certification required upon hire.
Experience and Skills
- Less than 1 year of clinical experience required; completion of accredited nursing program with clinical hours.
