Qualifications

• Current RN license is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate healthcare records per state regulations.
• Know residents' medical histories, health concerns, and medications.
• Report changes in health or behavior promptly.
• Conduct routine and problem-focused health assessments.
• Complete nursing assessment notes regularly.
• Review medication records and occurrence reports.
• Train staff on medical concerns and medication administration.
• Administer treatments as prescribed by physicians.
• Provide first aid in emergencies when needed.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Provide telephone consultations during/after hours; participate in on-call schedule.

Looking for a nursing role beyond the hospital? Bring your clinical skills to May Institute’s Western Massachusetts Adult Services programs, where you’ll support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and other settings. Join us as a Registered Nurse (RN) and make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.
As a Registered Nurse, you’ll deliver individualized healthcare to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You’ll use your clinical skills and compassionate approach to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support each person’s health and well-being.

What You’ll Do

• Maintain accurate healthcare records in compliance with state regulations.
• Know each individual’s significant medical history, current health concerns, and medications.
• Report changes in behavior or appearance as appropriate.
• Conduct routine and problem-focused health assessments.
• Complete daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual nursing assessment notes as needed.
• Review medication records for accuracy and review all medication occurrence reports.
• Train and support staff on medical concerns and medication administration.
• Administer treatments prescribed by each individual’s physician in accordance with regulations.
• Provide first aid in emergency situations as needed.
• Attend meetings as needed.
• Provide telephone consultation during and after work hours and participate in a rotating weekend on-call schedule.
• Participate in individuals medical appointments as needed for advocacy and communication.

What You Bring

• A current RN license.
• 1–3 years of related experience; experience in human services is highly desirable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a plus.
• Strong assessment, communication, and decision‑making skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with staff and adapt to each individual’s needs.
• A commitment to confidentiality and respectful, person‑centered care.
