Job summary

May Institute in Western Massachusetts is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and other settings. You will deliver individualized healthcare, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and advocate for each person’s health and well-being.

The role requires an active RN license, 1–3 years of related experience (human services desirable), and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• A current RN license.
• 1-3 years of related experience; experience in human services is highly desirable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a plus.
• Strong assessment, communication, and decision‑making skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with staff and adapt to each individual's needs.
• A commitment to confidentiality and respectful, person‑centered care.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate healthcare records in compliance with state regulations.
• Know each individual's significant medical history, current health concerns, and medications.
• Report changes in behavior or appearance as appropriate.
• Conduct routine and problem-focused health assessments.
• Complete daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual nursing assessment notes as needed.
• Review medication records for accuracy and review all medication occurrence reports.
• Train and support staff on medical concerns and medication administration.
• Administer treatments prescribed by each individual's physician in accordance with regulations.
• Provide first aid in emergency situations as needed.
• Attend meetings as needed.
• Provide telephone consultation during and after work hours and participate in a rotating weekend on-call schedule.
• Participate in individuals medical appointments as needed for advocacy and communication.
