Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking an experienced registered nurse for orthopedic surgical care across adolescent to geriatric patients. The role includes post-operative monitoring, pain control, and coordination of recovery for joint replacements and spine surgeries.

We require an Oregon RN license, BLS, and either a BSN or ADN with progression toward BSN. Orientation programs provide onboarding for new employees in a dynamic academic health center environment.

Qualifications

• 1 year RN experience in a hospital setting.
• BSN graduates must have degree from CCNE/ACEN/CNEA accredited program 30 days before start date.
• ADN graduates must have an accredited ADN 30 days before start date.
• Associate degree nurses must enroll in BSN within 3 years and complete within 5 years of hire.
• Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License.
• BLS from AHA required; orientation will include BLS training.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for orthopedic surgical patients including post-op monitoring and pain control.
• Support recovery, pain management, and patient education after day surgery procedures.

Department Overview

9KPV provides care to adolescent through geriatric patients ranging from 16-100+ who have a variety of diagnoses which require surgical interventions and recovery for orthopedic conditions.

9KPV provides care to adolescent through geriatric patients ranging from 16-100+ who have a variety of diagnoses which require surgical interventions and recovery for orthopedic conditions.

Function/Duties of Position

This population may include, but is not limited to: joint replacement surgeries and revisions, orthopedic tumor surgeries, spine surgeries, fracture repairs, and other types of orthopedic care. 9KPV also provides care for a variety of surgical observation patients who require monitoring after day surgery procedures for pain control, postop nausea and vomiting, surgical site monitoring or other indications.

Required Qualifications

• 1 year RN experience in a hospital setting
• BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
• ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
• Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
• Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
• BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse

• External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
• Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area.
